RSS feeds allow you to see when websites have added new content. You can get the latest headlines in one place, as soon as they are published, without having to visit the websites you have taken the feed from. RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication.
How do I start using feeds?
You use a feed reader, which is a piece of software that checks for feeds and lets you read any new articles that have been added. There are many different versions, some of which are accessed using a browser, and some of which are downloadable applications.
Browser-based news readers let you catch up with your RSS feed subscriptions from any computer, whereas downloadable applications let you store them on your main computer.
Most modern web browsers have a built-in feed reader. Different browsers handle feeds in different ways. Check the help section of your browser to determine how it handles feeds.
There are many non-browser feed readers available if you search the internet, while others are built into popular applications like Microsoft Office's Outlook.
Subscribing to a feed
To add a feed to a browser-based reader, click the RSS feed icon  where you see it on a page and follow any on-screen prompts. (Note: you may need to set your browser's preferences for handling feeds.)
To add a feed to a standalone reader, follow the instructions that came with the application.
Feeds work particularly well with personalised homepages such as iGoogle, Netvibes, My Yahoo.

Not working?
Double-check your browser version and its RSS settings, or your feed reader settings. We've tested these feeds to work in IE7, Firefox 3.5 and Safari 4. Older or other browsers may not perform.
If you see this
when you click on a feed icon, you are probably using an old version of a browser and should consider upgrading to a more recent version.
