Excess adhesive from the production of SenSura® base plates is being reused, while CO2 emissions are down following an award-winning green IT project.A recent project investigating the reuse of adhesives on the base plates of SenSura products found that 60% of the lower-level adhesive was scrapped. The project then determined that it was possible to collect, remix, and reuse about 50% of the scrap.
The same quality
Keeping the same performance and quality level users expect from SenSura products was vital. Project leader Mikala Saxe says, "Extensive worst-case testing was performed on the adhesive collected for reuse, and no negative impact on base plate quality or characteristics was found."
She adds, "We are being more environmentally-friendly because there's less scrap incineration and less transportation to the incinerator."
"A beacon for green IT"
Continuing the green success story is the award to Coloplast of the Green IT Certificate from leading Danish organisations. By changing computers and screens, consolidating printers, and optimising server rooms, Coloplast produced 904 tonnes less CO2 in 2008-09.
A recent report from Danish firms 2Ways IT and Dong Energy put Coloplast at the top of 95 large Danish companies who also received Green IT Certificates in 2009, concluding that Coloplast is a "beacon for the Danish business community when it comes to Green IT."
A key action was reducing the number of physical servers from 426 to 25. Leon Knøster Rasmussen, Vice President Corporate IT, says, "This means we have significantly reduced the use of electricity for running the servers, as well as cooling our server rooms."
