The Stoma-QoL questionnaire measures quality of life in people with a stoma. It’s designed for people who have an ileostomy, a colostomy or a urostomy – who have had their stoma for at least six months and are considered ‘stable’. The Stoma-QoL questionnaire contains 20 questions. Respondents are asked to rate their answers from ’Always’ (1 point) through to ’Not at all’ (4 points). Adding up the scores gives you a single standard score (between 20 and 80 points) which is converted to a global ‘0-100 score’. This final score indicates how the person in your care is feeling at a particular point in time. The higher the score, the better their quality of life. The score can be compared over time to assess, for example, how the person is adjusting to their stoma, or the effect of a new stoma appliance.
