Product sustainability

We produce and ship over 1.5 billion products every year – helping more than two million users. Making our healthcare products more sustainable takes time, but we’re already making progress.

Towards more sustainable products and services

Our products and packaging have a major impact on our company’s environmental footprint. That’s why we’re working towards making them more sustainable, using the innovation skills we’ve honed over the last 60 years.

We’re committed to developing and delivering more environmentally sustainable products. Since this takes time, we’re also acting right now to make our packaging more recyclable and using more renewable materials.

Watch the video below to find out how we’re putting eco-design at the heart of our product development:

90%

Of our packaging recyclable

74% of our packaging can already be recycled.1

80%

Of our packaging made of renewable materials

Today, this applies to 68% of our packaging. 1

75%

Of our production waste recycled

We’ve reached this target ahead of time, because today, we recycle 77% of our production waste. 1

Packaging

Packaging

Our primary product packaging is often designed with specific aims, like usability and sterility. Although this means we rarely find plug-and-play alternatives, we’ve started exploring new ways to make it more sustainable.

We already ensure that all our retail and shipping boxes are renewable and made of renewable materials – most of which are Forest Stewardship Council (FSC)-certified.

Phasing out hazardous substances

Phasing out hazardous substances

While all our products are biocompatible and safe for their intended purposes, we actively strive to reduce the negative health and environmental impacts of substances from our products and production processes.

Tackling plastic waste

Tackling plastic waste

Since we always put user safety first, and uphold the highest quality and hygiene standards, most of our products are single-use plastic products.

We also recognise that the world is facing a plastic waste crisis. That’s why we’re committed to improving recycling technologies and recycling more of our own plastic waste. We’re currently working on new products that will use less material, generate less waste, and are made from more sustainable materials.

Having sustainability in mind when choosing which catheter to use is important to me.
